Remap user material selection uses enum menu instead of searchable list #72595

System Information
Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.17763 64 Bits
Graphics card: GeForce RTX 2080 Ti/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.5.0 NVIDIA 441.66

Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.81 (sub 16), branch: master, commit date: 2019-12-04 11:32, hash: f1aa4d18d4
Also tried on 2.82 daily build 12/19
Worked: (optional)

Short description of error
I'm trying to remap some of my materials, but the menu that opens to allow me to choose the replacement material doesn't allow me to see all the materials available--there is no way to scroll down to see more of the list. I tried on the daily build for 12/19, and unlike the stable version, there are arrows, but they also don't open the full menu.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Go to outliner>blender file>materials, right click on a material, choose remap, Outliner ID data remap opens, click on New ID to open that menu, and that's where I can't see all of the choices. I'm attaching a screenshot, because it only happens with a larger file with many materials.Screenshot (7).png In the screenshot, the last material I can access is labelled M_Photo, and can't scroll to any beyond that.

This should use an ID search drop-down, although it's more a paper-cut than a bug.

Note, looked into this.

Suggest to solve this in a generic way, where any enum can be flagged as searchable, so we don't need to keep making custom UI's for each case.

I just had this case with a scene that has 200+ materials (can't say for sure because it's not displayed anywhere).
The popup is wider than my 4K display and since I can't scroll, I can't remap some materials.
I'd agree about this being a paper-cut if I had some way of reaching the offscreen-entries, but since this breaks the ability to remap some materials in very busy scenes, I'd still call it a bug.
