Short description of error
Material preview with eevee render engine shows pink color regardless of material settings.
Material preview shows pinkish colors regardless of material settings. The screenshots attached show default material. Sometimes the icons in material list are rendered in pink as well. Rendering Images result in pink objects regardless of material settings as well. This issue is not present, if cycles render engine is used.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  • Open a new blender Document
  • Open material properties

As described in #77944 (Material Preview (and final render in EEVEE) purple) I get pink/purple color several times too: Resizing the preview panel size is not the only way to produce purple color. I can confirm these effects:

#77944 (Material Preview (and final render in EEVEE) purple):

  • pening a preview (in my case the material icon becames purple here, but the preview itself often can be normal yet in 2.83)
  • changing a Preview Render Type (it "paints" the object and the plane unpredictably, but most times it's purple every time when switching, as in screenshots in the description. For example, every part of a Shader Ball can be either grey or purple color)
  • changing something in material shader (for example, a Base Color)
  • using Material Preview viewport shading
  • Render itself

On rare conditions preview rendering (and eevee rendering) works fine. Unfortunately, I cannot make out specific conditions to get purple or correct preview colors. Changing the preview size leads to purple colors every time!

In my opinion this ticket can be marked as duplicate of #77944 (Material Preview (and final render in EEVEE) purple).
