Worked: ?
Short description of error
I work with files exported from CAD-software packages imported into Blender showing technical installations: vacuum chambers and related technical infrastructure. I process the objects in the files by sorting them into collections representing subsystems (vacuum chambers, electrodes, magnets, ...) joining parts of larger systems, assigning materials from a material library file. I use hierarchies of files containing standard parts occurring at various places, materials and larger structures. In total, the files have a size of about 1 GB of data.
When working with the files, Blender repeatedly and randomly crashes without obvious relation to specific actions.
Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Cannot provide this kind of information: random crashes.
I am willing to give access to a git repo containing the 1 GB files

MacOS crash report from 2021-07-30{F10247051}
Thanks for the report. Does the crash happen with this specific file?
If yes then please add the file (keep the file as simple as possible, size of 1 GB file is large enough for purpose of testing)
Could also be a Mac specific issue of intel iris pro (all listed in: P2160)
Next crash when I created a texture based material
BlenderCrash_20210801-01
Another crash without crash file when creating a material with a couple of texture maps. To me this looks like a memory leak. Crashes seem to appear after long activities without saving. When saving regularly, crashes seem not to happen.
Next crash when opening file. File opens, but was saved in "Material Preview" viewport mode. While loading, I was clicking on the "Solid" viewport mode button. After restarting Blender file was loaded without problems in "Material Preview" mode.

Crash occurs following
glDrawElementsInstancedBaseVertex
.This was also the case in e.g. #83199, #88233, #84268, ...
So will tag as MAC specific.
Changed status from 'Needs Triage' to: 'Needs Developer To Reproduce'

Just raising awareness to @fclem:
this seems to be of different kind though:
So we have a pile of these MAC specific "random" crash reports.
From a triaging standpoint, these are all "untriagable" (since no repro steps can be provided, these are usually set to
Needs Information from User
)Would like to get a module dev opinion on how to proceed with these.
Is there anything we can do (other than getting crash logs?)
Still happens in Blender 2.93.4.
System information: system-info.txt
Crash dump: YRT1_Injector_2021-09_Beamline.crash.txt
Note: the file size I am working with is approx 200 MB. I keep the file on an external disk connected via USB to the computer. The problem seems to be less severe when I keep the file on the local SSD - but this is a gut feeling.
@WolfgangGeithner does this happen with metal backend on newer releases?: https://builder.blender.org/download/daily/
No activity for more than a week. As per the tracker policy we assume the issue is gone and can be closed.
Thanks again for the report. If the problem persists please open a new report with the required information.
