Hi I hope you are doing great, I recently noticed that the modes pie menu (edit/object) has been removed this was so helpful when switching to specific edit mode (vertex/face..etc) plus the placements was so great, no i have to install machine tools to compensate that, if possible can you add it again the same old mode pie menu, thank you

plus the old save pie menu which had the export and import at the bottom this was more efficient everything became a bit complicated but the save pie is not as important as the mode pie, i know you can use the selection pie to select and switch between vertex/edge and stuff, but the old pie was way more efficient, i hope you could bring it back or maybe adjust it like machine tools or something, but i'm currently switching to the 1.3.2 version, hopefully you can fix it, thank again for you your effort

Hey, the mode pie is now built into Blender, on Ctrl+Tab. This wasn't working when using the Industry Compatible or 2.7x keymaps, but that should be fixed now. Although the default hotkey did change to Ctrl+Tab (for consistency with core Blender), you can change it back to just Tab in the add-on preferences.

You can also change Vertex/Edge/Face select modes with the 1, 2, 3 keys. These shortcuts are built into Blender, on all keyconfigs, afaik. But as you say, they're also in the Mesh Select menu currently (although I won't promise this will stay that way, since 1, 2, 3 is faster and built-in.)

And the Export/Import pie is also still there, still on Ctrl+S, it's just that now you have to drag the mouse for the pie menu to appear. If you don't move the mouse and just tap Ctrl+S, it will just save the file, like it would if the add-on wasn't present.

I hope those solutions are satisfactory?

Hi Thanks for the explanation, unfortunately you didn't get what I'm pointing out here,

I know the built in pie menu, so do you think the built in pie is better than your old pie? you're mode pie did not cause any issues and worked perfectly why complicate things when it worked. if blender has a built in feature that doesn't mean to remove the better version from you addon,

Same for the save pie the must drag thing for the save pie menu and ctrl S for normal save its so weird, whether a pie or no pie but double operation is confusing i need to know what I'm doing and i never liked the on drag thing, it sometime don't work, in my opinion this is a good example when you steer things in the wrong direction, I really appreciate all the work you've done, and i really wanna see you addon become better, but you have the last call of course :D

The mode switch pie menu was implemented before Blender had the same pie menu added. I removed it for the following reasons, in order of importance:

  • As new modes and object types get added to Blender (like particle hair and grease pencil v3), this needs to be maintained, and once I move on to other projects, the add-on is going to become unmaintained again. The old pie menu was omitting Grease Pencil Vertex Paint, and all particle edit modes, even though they've been in Blender for about a year now.
  • Having two features that do the same things is confusing for new users. Tab is one object mode pie menu with a certain layout, and Ctrl+Tab is another object mode pie menu with a completely different layout.
  • It's not intuitive what the Object/Edit toggle operator will do when you're in any other mode, like Sculpt mode. Will it enter Object or Edit mode?
  • I think the Vertex/Edge/Face select drop-down is super slow and there's no reason to use it when you can just go into Edit mode and press 1, 2, 3. It's 2 actions but it's still faster than the drop-down.

The on-drag pie menus are definitely an experimental idea, I'm not 100% sold on them either, so I appreciate your feedback on them and will take it into consideration. Maybe I'll get rid of them altogether, or at least make them optional. After all, they are also optional in core Blender.

I see no problem at all, and thank you again the effort :)
