This doesn't seem to work. Masking is inverted now.
Hm it seems like the "bug" is that groups hide layer masks by default, which they probably shouldn't. If I click the mask icon on the group to enable masking for the layer group, it works correctly.
I think this might be the same as blender/blender#129353. Because the imported SVG uses bezier curves which weren't handled correctly in the rendering code.
@allanmichaut The active layer would still be kept in the Grease Pencil data. I meant that the dopesheet doesn't consider the channel active if the object is not active. Something like that.
