No machine specs are required for this report as the bug is not related to the blender app or a users machine but rather to the website Infrastructure.
I live in South Africa and when downloading Blender from the official website the automatically selected miror is practically non functional. Causing download times over 7 hours. I need to cancel the download and manually select the USA mirror each time. Then it downloads in 2 minutes.
I made a video to show the issue described :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CgAY0J2Y3UA
the mirror is [Vereniging NLUUG (South Africa)]
This has been like this for some time already and it is a terrible situation for anyone new to blender wanting to download it for the first time.
thanks

Maybe @pablovazquez can take a look?
Hi, thanks for the report.
Indeed Africa (the entire continent) was set to download from Vereniging NLUUG (The Netherlands), since that was one of the most performant mirrors in the area time ago. Since then we now have new mirrors from other places that often work better.
Could you please download the following files and let me know which one gives you the best speeds?
Then I will set that mirror to be the main mirror for Africa.
Thanks!
HI Pablo
Link number 1 was perfect , downloaded in 1 minute. ( 1:13 to be exaact ;)
number two was bad and jumped to 19 minutes then jumped around at 15-16 minutes before I cancelled.
Link number three , started off well saying two minutes , went down for the first 10 seconds but then started slowing down and the time started creeping up, 3 then 5 then 7 minutes , I also cancelled it after that.
cheers

Thanks for testing @shaderbytes!
I have set mirror 1 to be the default now for South Africa, and entire Africa in general for now unless people report slow speeds in other countries in the continent.
Closing this as resolved.
