I don't think this is a bug but by design: Switching from Modular to Replay clears the cache, but seems intentional. The documentation isn't clear about this, but it doesn't seem fundamentally…

Linked collection with smoke simulation cached doesn't work

It looks like the fluid sim is loading the cache correctly, but the instancing code is not drawing/rendering the data. I'm not familiar with that code though.
