Delete Branch "%!s(<nil>)"
Deleting a branch is permanent. Although the deleted branch may continue to exist for a short time before it actually gets removed, it CANNOT be undone in most cases. Continue?
System Information
Operating system: Windows 10
Blender Version
Broken: 3.6.3, 4.0.0 Alpha (2023-09-23)
Short description of error
The delete operation in different editors has the same name, but different behavior:
In
3D Viewport
in the Object menu there are 2 operations:Delete (X)
andDelete Global (Shift X)
.Delete
deletes linked objects only from the current scene,Delete Global
deletes linked objects from all scenes. In
Outliner
in right-click menu on object there is an only operationDelete (X)
, but it works likeDelete Global (Shift X)
in3D Viewport
, and it deletes objects from all scenes, although it is expected that it will delete object only from the current scene. For the same behavior, it is necessary:
Outliner
operationDelete (X)
should be renamed and the hotkey changed toDelete Global (Shift X)
3D Viewport
, to delete object only from the current sceneOutliner
in right-click menu there should be two operations as in the3D Viewport
:Delete (X)
andDelete Global (Shift X)
Confirmation of deletion
Now in
Outliner
hotkeyX
deletes objects from all scenes without confirmation, this leads to unwanted delete of objects from other scenes. For global deletion must be confirmation.Tooltips
You also need to change the text of the tooltips for these operations, now it is the same "Delete selected objects":
Can confirm. I'm leaning towards exposing both deleting methods in outline and default
Delete
being the one that deletes linked object from current scene. For "deleting from current scene", there is already "unlink" operation in outliner context menu. I don't think this is a bug. We can instead change the label so their use will be more clear to everyone:
