System Information
Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.19043-SP0 64 Bits
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.6.0 NVIDIA 537.42
Blender Version
Broken: version: 4.1.0 Beta, branch: blender-v4.1-release, commit date: 2024-02-08 00:10, hash:
4a50f1d4ee9a
Worked: (newest version of Blender that worked as expected)
Short description of error
Instant crash when switching to OptiX and going in Rendered mode in Cycles. If I'm in rendered mode and switch from Cuda to OptiX its fine, but once you switch to solid and back to rendered it crashes instantly.
Steps to Reproduce
Hi, thanks for the report. This was fixed in 546.33 driver release: #114548 (comment)
Can you check again with updated drivers?
Updated to 551.23, still crash on todays 4.1 build after kernels load up
Can you attach logs?: https://docs.blender.org/manual/en/dev/troubleshooting/crash.html#windows
Logs
From the backtrace it seems you are using Open Shading Language, which is not enabled by default.
Please attach and example .blend file that crashes.
Thanks. Looks like optix OSL is enabled. Can confirm in that case
Instant crash when switching to OptiX and going in Rendered mode in Cyclesto Cycles: Instant crash when switching to OptiX with OSL@brecht didn't notice your comment. Crash is replicable in default scene. Just need to select OptiX and OSL
Some commit between
62e1059960a3 - fcbb94ed1e6e
introduced the crash.Maybe the library changes
802ac5ba5a
?Almost certainly the library upgrade, yes. I will look into it.
got the same problem on GTX 1070 ti with the 4.2 build from 13.2.2024 4:00 and 29.1.2024 with different scenes and geforce game ready and studio driver.
blender is crashes when building shader...
This requires updated libraries for Windows and Linux, will reopen until those have landed.
The Windows libraries have not been updated yet, so keeping open.
Windows libraries were updated as well now.
@brecht , looks like crash is still there in 4.1/4.2
@deadpin and I got crash with optix OSL when checking #118756 (also see
#module-triaging
)It's working correctly on Linux for me, but I guess there is still some Windows specific problem.
Do we have a stack where it crashes? I can't repro locally.
I was able to reproduce this on Windows and started looking into it Thursday. It's crashing in oslexec somewhere, and I just got a custom OSL build working to investigate that, but ran out of time. I'll continue on it next week.
This was caused by an uninitialized variable in OSL, fixed in:
8a1242f75b
I'll make a PR to upgrade OSL, it looks quite safe as there have been no significant code changes besides this commit since our current version.
Reopening again until the libs have been updated.
I confirmed it is now fixed in the latest daily build.
