Currently, when multiple threads wait for the same cache (e.g. for the normals of a mesh), all except one are idle until the cache has been computed. If the cache computation takes a while, it can be beneficial if the waiting threads do some other work instead. With some luck, they might actually join the computation of the cache. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a way to force the waiting threads to join the cache computation. Instead, they are allowed to steal whatever work they want from other threads. This can be a problem if the stolen work takes a long time and is completely unrelated.

TODO:

  • Improve docs.
  • Actually use the functionality by passing the new is_expensive parameter.
  • Show that this improves performance.
