I never touched the folder's permissions and blender is creating it, so I don't assume that it is a permission problem. I don't change the samba share and I don't re-mount or anything.
For me it doesn't crash when the bake folder isn't available, only if it is actually there!

I open Blender save the file *on a network drive (cifs). Then I click geometry nodes, I add a bake node and click bake (still). Then I save the file again and re-open it. Blender crashes.

I realized that a file with a bake in it does open when I rename the bake directory before I open the file. I can then restore the original name and I think it would even "see" the bake again…
