I should probably add that the tested hardware is a Macbook Pro 15" 2019 with intel chip The gpu does support metal 3 according to 'System information'.

I did a quick test and noticed, that setting a single keyframe on the position of the object casting the shadow will enable shadow updates on each frame change…
Still happens in 4.1 Beta and 4.2 Alpha.
Also just tested on Version 4.1.0 (4.1.0 2024-02-05), and the problem also appears in that version.
Let me know if there are any logs I can collect or things to try out.
Yes, I have just tested in Version 4.1.0 (4.1.0 2024-01-23), and the result is the same.
And just to be clear, the problem does not appear in Eevee. Only in workbench and wireframe mode.
