I tried the latest game-ready driver and the oldest official release I could find is 528.49 - in both cases, the glitch remains.

Could you try using a different version of Nvidia driver?

I installed newest nvidia studio driver 536.99. No change.

Blender 3.5 crashes when disabling 'Display modifier in viewport"

I tried to replicate in 3.6 and 3.5.1 and I got no crash. So whatever is the cause, I guess it might be fixed. Sorry for wasting your time.
