To me it looks like the model has smooth shading in Blender. You can see the actual polygons by right clicking in viewport > Shade Flat.

Nevermind, I just left region overlap on while triaging another bug.
Cannot reproduce. I think you're confused with the shortcuts, selecting multiple edge loops is Shift+Alt+LMB, not double-clicking LMB.
Interestingly, if you open a new viewport window, it works normally.
@Alaska Added system and GPU driver info, thought it was not needed at first. Downloaded the daily build, curve disappears but doesn't cause crashes anymore.
