System Information
Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.19041-SP0 64 Bits
Graphics card: AMD Radeon RX 6600 ATI Technologies Inc. 4.5.0 Core Profile Context 23.5.2.230523
Blender Version
Broken: version: 3.6.0, branch: blender-v3.6-release, commit date: 2023-06-27 08:08, hash:
c7fc78b81ecb
Worked: 3.5.1
Mesh in blender cycles looks weird, some faces in the geometry don't show correctly in Blender 3.6 with the new HIP RT
Just installed and opened blender, turned on HIP RT in the settings tab and then opened a file with a model i made with blender 3.5.1 and switched to cycles.
i attach a screenshot of how it looks with HIP RT and how it's supposed to look (how it looks with HIP RT deactivated)
CC @BrianSavery @salipour.
Weird Cycles viewport bug with the new RT AMD. Blender 3.6 LTSto Cycles HIP RT geometry artifactsHi Nicole. Can you try it with this driver? https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/release-notes/rn-rad-win-22-40-51-06-blender-3-6-beta
Mentioned in the release notes.
I've installed that driver and tried to open the model again, but the viewport looks the same for some reason, it also looks the same in other files i've tested.
all this models have .PNG textures and the materials are based on the basic Principled BSDF.
AMD driver version: 22.40.51.06
Little update: it seems that the models only look like this in the viewpoint views (top, bottom, right, left, front and back), in free and camera view the models look normal
Possibly related: #108099
That is possible. @NicoleRu can you post a screenshot of your system preferences for HIP devices? What CPU are you on?
Sure, i'm using an RX 6600 8GB with an Intel I3-10105 3.7GHz
We cannot reproduce this on our side. Can you send us the mesh?
sure, here it is
Also, it seems that this error happens in the orthographic view too sometimes, but only sometimes
I believe this should be solved now. There was a known issue in 3.6.0 that was fixed in later 3.6 LTS versions and 4.0. If the issue persists, I can reopen the report.
Sorry, the issue is still present in Blender 4.0 and Blender 4.1, using HIP and looking at the model from the top, down or any side, in orthographic view mode
Screenshot from Blender 4.1
Thanks for testing. You can try updating to the latest AMD drivers if you haven't already.
@salipour any idea what might be going on here?
This issue is probably related to #117961 because the issue only occurs in orthographic mode, and it disappears as the "End clip distance" is reduced. However, the "End clip distance" does need to be tiny to fully remove this issue (roughly 5 meters).
This issue can be reproduced with a plane with small trianges for simpler testing.
