Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

Open last 4.0, save default cube.
Open last 3.6.2 blender, load saved cube blend file.
See black region in 3d view, disappeared tools, ... .
Try to save and press Overwrite button in a new warning menu.
See the crash due to invalid allocation.

Can confirm.

See black region in 3d view, disappeared tools, ... .
Try to save and press Overwrite... See the crash due to invalid allocation.

These two could be unrelated to each other.
I observed the crash in builds where view3d and other Spaces are unaffected.

git bisect points to: 98142f5e35 for above problem 🤷‍♂️

Older builds do not have new regions registered RGN_TYPE_ASSET_SHELF, RGN_TYPE_ASSET_SHELF_HEADER
