Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.5.0 NVIDIA 546.01
Blender Version
Broken: version: 3.6.5, branch: blender-v3.6-release, commit date: 2023-10-16 14:30, hash:
cf1e1ed46b7e
Also does not work on 4.1 Alpha
Short description of error
Rendering an animation in cycles seems to only denoise the first few frames and after rendering a few hundred frames blender also crashes sometimes (inconsistent).
Even old projects that did not have that issue before are now affected by that.
Yes, OpenImageDenoiser seems to work, but OptiX was better in my opinion and I wish to be able to use it again for rendering.
It does work fine in the viewport.
So I don't quite know what is causing that issue, but it worked a few weeks ago.
All I did between then and now was installing the CUDA Toolkit, cuDNN and Python (uninstalling did not fix the issue).
I also tried updating my graphics driver, but that also did nothing.
Switching the Cycles render device to OptiX or CUDA does not fix the issue either.
Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
LowFPSObject.blend
LowFPSObject.crash.txt
Hi, thanks for report, can you please provide example file or steps to reproduce that from scratch and default cube?
I sure can provide a blend file, but as I stated in my post it affects all of my blender projects now.
Even the ones that worked perfectly before all that happened.
Steps I do to reproduce the issue are:
It now consistently crashes with the same error (attached) as before.
I am pretty sure that it has something to do with me installing the CUDA Toolkit and that most likely will work fine if you have not done that
For crash, we already have a bug report: #114548
And I can confirm the noise on few intermediate frames
Newer NVIDIA drivers? Because I was not able to redo the crash on older version (532)
Raising priority for awareness.
I'm having the same problem on Linux so I don't think it's windows specific
Happens in Blender 4.0 and 3.x. In the viewport I see "Failed to create Optix denoiser"
Yeah sorry for the late response. I tried downgrading to the same version (532.03) and that seemed to fix the issue.
I did render like 100-200 frames of an animation (that didn't work before) and every single frame is denoised.
Before downgrading, it only did like 1-10 frames denoised and then started saving noisy images.
So as of right now there are no more crashes with this version and also all frames are being denoised.
I will do a few more tests and if it starts crashing or saving noisy images again I'll let you know.
@pmoursnv it's unclear if this is a bug in Blender or in the NVIDIA driver. But it seems to happen only with newer driver version. Can you investigate?
at the moment I have decided to use the 532 driver, waiting for news
It's a driver bug, will be fixed in an upcoming driver release likely within the next 3 weeks.
Fixed with the 546.33 driver released today.
