I can no longer reproduce this. I know this is an old report so I don't know if you are available right now @Josephbburg to confirm. Leaving this open for now but will eventually close.
Another easy way to reproduce it actually is to start with any object and use the "Linear" subdivision button on the Multires modifier multiple times.

Actually, the crash can also be caused by just toggling the visibility of the Multires modifier instead of this specific option.
Not a big issue but still worth looking into at some point. Might be better make sure that at least one axis always has to be enabled. I don't see a use in having all disabled.
