The most recent build of 4.2 still has the issue. I'll do a system update somewhere next week and keep you informed
4.1 stable doesn't have EEVEE next anymore, in the most recent 4.2 alpha EEVEE next still freezes my MacOS 12.7 intel iMac; not my MacOS 13.5 apple silicon M2 Macbook
Looks like I’m in for a system update. With MacOS 12.7.2 EEVEE next freezes Blender with any scene, but only in material preview and render preview.
Apparently, this is unrelated to the active alpha channel. EEVEE next freezes my intel iMac with any scene, as soon as I go to render preview or material preview.
On my Apple silicon…
I justed checked on a different machine; I'm only having this issue on an Intel iMac, not on an Apple Silicon Macbook.
This is also the case on an Intel iMac with macOS 12.6.9
I downloaded 4.0 from your link above and it runs normally on an 2017 Intel iMac pro but not on a 2012 Intel Macbook pro (didn’t check for older 4.0 versions, though).
I cannot reproduce this problem on an 8-core iMac pro with MacOS Monterey. When opening for the first time I do experience a spinning lollypop for about 10 seconds, thereafter is opens normally.
I cannot reproduce this issue with 3.5.0 or 3.5.1 on MacOS Montery 12.6.5
